This small artisan producer is based in the Russian River Valley, one of California’s greatest areas for fine wine. The winery was founded by Joseph Swan in 1967 and the operation is now run by Joseph’s daughter and son-in-law Lynn and Rod Burglund. Rod is the winemaker and is known for his ‘hands-off’ approach in the cellar. He never applies a formula to his winemaking, instead preferring to let the characteristics of the vintage and vineyard site to shine through.
Dried cherry and plum fruit flavours on the palate, with violet perfume on the nose. A touch of licorice and cardamom come through, as do the typical Syrah-like notes of leather and bacon.
